What you could be part of…

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be a part of our excellent Housing and Benefits Team. We are seeking a Domestic Abuse Support Specialist to support those fleeing domestic abuse and ensure their safety.

The role will combine both housing and domestic abuse knowledge and you will need the skills to provide expert, specialist advice on domestic abuse and to support the housing service officers in preventing and relieving homelessness within the framework of the Homelessness Reduction Act. You will ensure that the local authority meets its obligations in respect of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Leading on the project to achieve the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance Accreditation

  • Providing support to clients placed in temporary accommodation as a result of fleeing domestic abuse
  • Preventing and relieving homelessness for those experiencing/fleeing domestic abuse within the framework of the Homelessness Reduction Act and the Domestic Abuse Act 2021
  • Helping to arrange temporary accommodation when needed
  • Providing advice and guidance to housing officers in cases involving domestic abuse
  • Collecting and monitoring data in respect of domestic abuse in the district and collate related data across service area
  • Working with the Norfolk Domestic Abuse Partnership Board 
  • Working with a wide range of partner organisations and housing providers to secure the best possible outcomes for our customers
  • Be the point of contact for domestic abuse matters both externally and internally
  • Continually review and inform staff of changes and/or best practice regarding domestic abuse

We are looking for…

An individual with significant experience of working in a domestic abuse service, who will provide an empathetic service to customers. You will also have a thorough understanding of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 and of the legal and regulatory framework underpinning housing. You will be a great communicator who is driven to making a difference to the lives of those fleeing domestic abuse and will have a thorough understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on its survivors and their children.

You will need…

  • A full, clean driving licence

  • Detailed understanding and awareness of all forms of domestic abuse in additional to at least 1 years’ experience of working in a domestic abuse service that provides specialist advice and practical assistance to households experiencing domestic abuse.
  • To be highly organised and resourceful, with experience of working in a housing or other customer outcome-focused environment
  • A thorough understanding of the legal and regulatory framework underpinning housing and homelessness, the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 and safeguarding legislation
  • Good knowledge of the criminal justice system and the civil and legal orders available to victims of domestic abuse
  • Proven experience of working with and supporting the needs of vulnerable people
  • Experience of successfully undertaking research, delivering projects, preparing reports, and undertaking bids for funding
  • Experience of successfully working closely with external partner agencies and internal departments
  • Experience of combining excellent team working with the ability to operate with a minimum amount of supervision

  • Working knowledge of a wide range of Microsoft Office packages
