An opportunity for a fully funded master’s degree commencing in September 2023.

At the point at which studies commence, working hours will include a day per week to allow for study.

It is expected that the master’s degree would be in an associated field and would be carried out at the University of East Anglia over two years, as a part-time course.

This is an exciting time to join the team as we deliver on a wide range of ambitious carbon reduction, environmental and climate change projects in line with the council’s ambitious clean growth and sustainability agenda.

The Climate Change officer role provides a unique opportunity to both work, learn and help us in delivering a portfolio of projects which will reduce our emission and assist in achieving our ambitious climate change targets.

You will be joining a growing and collaborative team, working in partnership with a variety of organisations and stakeholders to develop sustainable and innovative solutions to environmental and climate change related challenges.  We are focused on supporting both Council’s to reduce carbon emissions. This means ensuring that our staff, councillors, and stakeholders join us as we head towards becoming net-zero. The team are also proactive in delivering projects which will support our wider areas to decarbonise to thrive and grow.

What you’ll be doing…

Assisting with the implementation and delivery of the council’s environmental strategy and clean growth agenda.

Supporting with the identification and delivery of carbon reduction and clean growth projects in collaboration with a wide range of council service areas as well as with external stakeholders.

Investigating, identifying, and supporting with applications to funding streams which enable the delivery of council projects including, but not limited to, BEIS funding such as the Public Sector Decarbonisation scheme, OLEV funding, and green bonds.

You must have…

  • A Bachelor’s degree 2.1 or equivalent in an environmental subject or other relevant discipline across social sciences, arts and science
  • Knowledge of environmental policy, sustainability, climate change and related matters
  • Ability to understand, analyse, interpret, and report on relevant technical information
  • Experience of using data to prioritise project planning
  • Ability to work autonomously with confidence as well as being able to work effectively within a team
  • Demonstratable evidence of effective organisational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Confident communicator
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills and an ability to communicate key messages to a wide audience.
  • About 60% of this role’s time will be spend on external communication.
